Sneak Preview: Boardwalk Collection

Another Sneak Preview! This time it is Boardwalk, the second of two new Young America collections to debut at the High Point Market this week.
Beachy in style with a contemporary twist, Boardwalk is full of adventure. It’s boyish at a glance, but don’t be fooled. Boys will love it and girls will too. Think tween and teen girl in just the right color or wood tone, including our new Antique Slate gray. A weathered edge technique creates a relaxed, sophisticated air with hardware so modern the cool factor cannot be ignored.
Stay tuned, the new Boardwalk Collection will be available to order online and through retailers nationwide in the coming months.

Shown clockwise top to bottom: Boardwalk Batten Bed with a Boardwalk 2 Drawer Night Stand in Antique Slate, New Fanfare Crib with a Boardwalk Single Dresser and Changing Station, and a Boardwalk Chest. The crib, changing station and chest are shown in our newest Young America paint color: Sandpiper, a soft and subtle gray.

Boardwalk styles in traditional dark wood tones are a handsome choice and favorite for boys (of all ages) too. The smooth edges and rounded corners of Boardwalk keep the collection informal and easy to live with. Shown: Boardwalk Jetty Bed, Boardwalk 1 Drawer Night Stand and a Boardwalk Chest.

5 “Green” tips for a Healthy Home and a Healthy Baby
“Green” is a modern day, catchall word for making the best, healthiest choices for your home and nursery. Deciphering the real meaning of “Green” can be daunting. The truth is, there are some basic, practical “Green” rules of thumb you can follow. Here are a 5 of them:
1. Stay away from harsh chemical fumes during and after your pregnancy - and keep your baby away from them too. House paints, for example, are something you may not think of, but they may contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs), the toxic fumes that off-gas. Use low or no VOC paints and make sure your home and nursery are well-ventilated.
2. Choose a “Green” crib and nursery furniture. Young America has this category covered in three important ways. First, Young America cribs and nursery furniture are made in the USA, so our products have a much smaller carbon footprint than their imported counterparts. Second, our furniture is GREENGUARD certified to minimize indoor air pollution. Third, we offer furniture that’s Built To Grow for longevity and sustainability. Bottom line: Young America nursery furniture is a “Green” choice. It’s local, non-toxic, and will not end up in a landfill any time soon.
3. Allow a new crib mattress to air out (off-gas) before your baby sleeps on it. This important step will help release toxic fumes and prevent allergy symptoms ranging from puffy, red, and watery eyes to a runny nose, congestion, coughing, and asthma-like symptoms. Off-gassing can also cause skin irritations like rashes, itchiness, and hives. Choose bedding that has NOT been treated with polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). These chemical fire retardants accumulate in our bodies and have been shown to affect human health adversely.
Check out Healthy Child Healthy World’s “Make a Safe Bed” Checklist” for more helpful healthy bedding guidelines and tips.
4. Avoid wall-to-wall carpets. Carpets can harbor dust mites and allergens, and new synthetic carpets can off-gas VOCs. An area rug is a healthier, easy-to-clean choice. If you insist on wall-to-wall carpet, go with one made of natural fibers such as wool, cotton, hemp or jute. Look for natural rug underlays too.
5. Keep it clean. “Green” cleaners are safer for your nursery and whole house. Harsh chemical cleaners can irritate eyes and lungs, and companies are not required to list all ingredients on their cleaning products, so you don’t know exactly what’s in them. Make an effort to choose non-toxic, green cleaners or go ahead and make your own from items you probably already have around the house, including the old standby: white distilled vinegar.

What kind of Closer are you?
Young America announces the debut of our upgraded drawer system, the Quadro self-closing slide from Hettich, that enhances both the function and safety of our children’s furniture. Best of all, it’s QUIET. No more noisy slamming, bamming, house-shaking, neighborhood-quaking drawer closures.
Details, Interesting Details:
What’s Quadro? Nope, not a car or computer. It’s something better. Quadro is premium quality hardware from Hettich - an under-mount, ball bearing design that facilitates the smoothest, most even open/close possible, and its steel ball bearings are crafted to withstand years of heavy use. Many premium brands, including Sub-Zero and Viking, rely on Quadro technology to provide the optimum performance. Sound impressive? We think so too.
What’s so great about the new Young America drawer system? Featuring a 4-piece solid wood drawer box made of sustainably harvested North American hardwood with English dovetails in all four corners, our drawer system reflects a standard of American craftsmanship that is hard to find today. Young America’s upgraded drawer design includes a state-of-the-art drawer slide with Silent System technology. This unique combination of superior materials, construction and advanced engineering helps reinforce Young America’s reputation for producing safe, high-quality furniture parents can trust.
Why will parents LOVE our new drawer system? Safety. The Silent System is a soft-close function that catches a drawer, then gently and quietly pulls it shut. Silent System technology makes it virtually impossible for a drawer to slam closed, protecting little fingers from being pinched and helping to preserve peace and quiet in your home. For emphasis, peace and quiet.
One more drawer Safety Feature to be excited about. The Quadro drawer slide includes a dynamic load capacity of up to 55 pounds as well as a maximum safety extension, which limits how far drawers can be pulled out to reduce the possibility of tip-over accidents. Each Young America furniture piece with the new system also includes an anti-tip kit to further protect against your adventurous child’s attempt to climb the furniture. As always, we have your child’s - and whole family’s - safety in mind.
