Reasons to love Louis Philippe furniture? It’s simple, elegant and free of frou-frou

Louis Philippe. That’s French, right? Have you ever wondered who Louis Philippe was and why we still talk about him today in the same breath as we describe furniture?

As it turns out, Louis Philippe, King of the French during the mid 1800s, had quite an influence in his day. History tells us he was popular for not being as pretentious or lavish as his predecessors; Louis Philippe famously preferred simplicity over ornamentation. His distaste of fancy details and frou-frou opened doors for designers to create elegant furniture with playful, lively contours. Mostly in the darker woods of his day.

160 years later, the simple, pleasingly soft, rounded lines of the Louis Philippe-inspired furniture endure and the style is as popular as ever - for children and adults alike. Louis Philippe has quite a legacy indeed. One we’re proud to carry on.

Young America Louis BedThe Young America All Seasons Collection is a modern day interpretation of dear old Louis Philippe’s style. Simple, pleasingly elegant, no-frills children’s furniture built to happily and heartily withstand the test of time. We named the Louis Bed in his honor. It’s a very good example of what we’ve set out to describe here. It’s just right for children today.

Handsome in classic wood finishes (shown in Cinnamon), the All Seasons Louis Bed is also striking with a contemporary Young America color treatment. A Louis Bed in Surf Blue, Sour Apple, Cotton Candy or Peach becomes a childhood confection. One with personality that enlivens a room with joyful spirit. We carry the torch (and fly a kite) for Louis Philippe and feel certain he approves. View the All Seasons Collection and discover why it’s a parent and child favorite.
