DIY idea: Camping Creativity for Kids’ Rooms
Exploring and playing outdoors is an essential part of childhood memory-making. Each of us has fond memories of sitting around a campfire, roasting marshmallows and snuggling up in a sleeping bag in a tent or under starry night skies. It’s fun in the woods or in the backyard, so why not in your child’s bedroom.
We decided to capture the lure of an outdoor adventure in our Young America showroom with a camping-inspired bedroom.
We started by creating a rustic wood wall with reclaimed wood from Stikwood. Their website has the how-to information you need to get you started on this satisfying DIY project. Here’s a close-up of how our Stikwood wall turned out… complete with a perch for a lantern.
Along with lanterns, we added a homemade tent and a glowing LED campfire. Our tent is crafted with inexpensive canvas drop cloths from Lowes. By sewing a simple curtain rod pocket, we were able to hang the drop cloths and create a cozy enclosure.
The rug by nuLOOM was an exciting find. Its natural colors and stone path textures pulled the whole room together beautifully.
Take a look at our finished “Wild” room… you can almost hear the night crickets chirping!
What do you think?
We think it’s wonderful escape for any child (and adult) who loves the outdoors, nature and adventure. Throw open the windows and let the fresh air into your child’s personal campsite.
With summertime upon us, we wish you and your children many happy outdoor wonders and experiences. Happy camping!
